Antenna R&D
Prototyping and advanced model developments, case- and trade-studies, antenna and material measurements. EMSS Antennas is co-located with EMSS and the Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) development team, and thus perfectly positioned to harness the synergy between theoretical expertise and hardware practice.
Capabilities
The accumulative experience of both EMSS and EMSS Antennas is available to help expedite challenging tasks. Core capabilities are, in brief:
- Linear slotted waveguide arrays
- The usage of near and far field, and compact ranges
- Electrically (and physically) large dipole arrays
- Electrically small antennas
- Array pattern synthesis
- Shaped reflector and custom feed developments
- Passive microwave components
- Microstrip arrays
- Simultaneous beam-forming topologies
- Mutual coupling compensation in array antennas
- Antennas completely or partially buried below ground
- FSS prototyping
- Radome development
- Artificial materials with prescribed electrical properties
- Characterization of materials at microwave frequencies
- Physically large VLF antennas
- Pattern Measurements & Product Testing
Resources
Amongst others, the following resources are available:
- Gerotek Far Field Range (Paardefontein)
- Gerotek EMC Compliance Testing
- Gerotek Environmental compliance testing
- University of Pretoria: Compact Range
- Cylindrical Near Field Range: Operated by CSIR
- Indoor Near Field Range: Operated by Stellenbosch University
